bought a 1 bedroom condo in DT Toronto and I just can’t get away from buyer’s remorse. I liked the location, view. It was also quite new, and most importantly was within my budget. It was 100 sqft smaller than the place I was renting, but I thought I could just manage it.Now that I moved in, the experience isn’t as what I hoped it to be. That 100 sqft difference that I neglected makes things look cramped. The bedroom barely fits a queen sized bed and I feel like I overpaid for what it is. It’s depressing to accept that I made a bad financial choice which I’ll have to pay for the next 25 years via /r/PersonalFinanceCanada https://ift.tt/3F8cQoH

It was a headline for like 1 day and then the MSM stopped covering it. This is such a huge deal and most Americans don’t even know/care about it.Federal reserve members got caught insider trading and using the Fed to pump their own stocks/options they own, at the cost of the US’s long term economic health. They have now printed 25% of total USD in circulation in the last year, inflation is increasing and only gonna get worse soon. Are we just so used to corruption now that nobody cares anymore? Or is Reddit gonna pretend like huge corruption isn’t happening just cause the Dems are currently in control? Our entire government is a sham and just a bunch of corrupt rich assholes using their power to get more money. via /r/Superstonk https://ift.tt/3iivRuN

Hello, I recently became in charge of my parents’ finances after some medical events. My parents purchased their house in Ontario in 2007 for ~350,000$. They have been paying ~2,500$ a month every month for the past 14 years, and yet now, their debt on the mortgage is currently ~500,000$.How can this be? I know the value of the property went up, but shouldn’t they only have to pay what they originally bought it for?I know that they switched lenders from RBC to BMO a few years ago (Unfortunately, they don’t remember when or why) but would that have made their debt that much higher? They’ve never re-financed or been late on a payment.Any insight would be much appreciated! via /r/PersonalFinanceCanada https://ift.tt/3A0jnxQ

How serious is food inflation in Canada?https://ift.tt/3ATF8kj investigation continues but evidence suggesting that Statistics Canada is underestimating food inflation is mounting. For example, while the CPI report indicates that the price of ketchup has dropped by 5.9 per cent, BetterCart suggests ketchup is up by 7.3 per cent since January. Potatoes are 11.5 per cent more expensive than in January versus the 3.7 per cent suggested by the CPI. Frozen french fries are similarly more expensive – 26.2 per cent more expensive since January, not 5.9 per cent as the CPI reports. Bananas are 4.9 per cent more expensive according to BetterCart, not 0.1 per cent more.Another issue is shrinkflation, which is about shrinking packaging sizes and offering smaller quantities while retail prices remain intact. While a Statistics Canada website talks about how it measures the impact of shrinkflation, about 70 per cent of products in its food basket are listed at quantities that no longer exist in the market. via /r/PersonalFinanceCanada https://ift.tt/3D0OawG

The Canadian Government and Christian church are directly responsible for the atrocities of the residential schools against Indigenous people. So then why the hell are Federal employees getting this day off? The day was created for reflection and to learn more about the tragic history of the residential schools. Federal employees get a full paid day to do this but everyone else will have to participate in their free time. I don’t think I’ve ever been this disappointed in a government decision. Now I could be wrong but my understanding of the US equivalent (Roth IRA) is that you get the fixed limit per year of appoximately $5000 that doesn’t accumulate if it’s not used. In contrast to the Canadian TFSA that does accumulate it’s annual limit.I was roughly 27 years old when I properly understood this so imagine my surprise when I realize that I’m free to invest upwards of $50k completely tax free.I’m not informed on what equivalent TFSA programs are like in Europe or other developed countries but on the surface I must admit that our particular system seems to be an incredibly generous wealth building tool for particularly middle-class working incomes. Is there a catch ? Or perhaps is the TFSA program not as generous as it seems when compared to other countries ? Interested to hear your thoughts via /r/PersonalFinanceCanada https://ift.tt/2WfqFQv

Is it just me or is the TFSA system incredibly generous ?

Maybe the contest should be called “random chance on your phone”.Edit: apparently it’s “roll up to win” now (I guess a lame reference to drive thrus).
