OG post: https://ift.tt/3alhmCi to everyone who sent love, support and stories to me a few days ago when I wrote my original post that both my grandparents had COVID.This morning my grandmother watched her husband of almost 70 years pass over a zoom call, unable to help or hold him while he died. She took care of him like a nurse for 10 years while his health declined and the last thing she heard him say was “I don’t want to go, I want to die at home”She is experiencing moderate symptoms today and with his death, I’m so worried about her. It also means we don’t have a time frame for a funeral. My father is still negative but it has been 4 days, so I’m not too worried about him, but once a week passes I’ll breathe again.A reminder they’re all dosed with the FIRST shot a month ago. Get vaccinated, mask up, stay the fuck home and please PLEASE be careful. via /r/ontario https://ift.tt/32vZuQQ

For a year many kept arguing Ontario can’t do an Australia-style lockdown because it violates too many civil rights. So instead, we decided just to have the civil rights violation, without the Covid-eliminating lockdown.

Hi Reddit,I’m Sophie Zhang. I was fired from Facebook in September 2020, sending a 7.8k farewell memo on my last day that was leaked to Buzzfeed and went viral on Reddit w/ 52k upvotes. Earlier this week, I chose to go public with the Guardian in a deep-dive, because everything else has failed. Please ask me anything. I might not be able to answer every question, but if so, I’ll do my best to explain why I can’t.Proof: https://twitter.com/szhang_ds/status/1381700231654301696photo of me with sign https://ift.tt/2QlQVWa [compare to the pictures in the Guardian article]Sorry that this is an hour later than intended – intended to do it earlier, but the admins never got back to me on my calendar scheduling and verification.Edit: FYI – I have a call with a reporter at noon PST [an hour after this post was created]; any responses will be more intermittent after that point.Edit 2: I’m leaving for my call now. Thanks so much for the questions; I’ll try to come back and respond to any further ones later, but I’m quite busy so can’t promise unfortunately. Good luck everyone!Edit 3: Answered some more questions from 1-1:30 PST. I’ll try to be back later in a few hours, but my afternoon is very booked.Edit 4 – 4:05 PST. Wow this, really blew up while I was gone! All my calls for the day are done now, so I can just stay here and answer questions until it gets late. Sorry for the wait!Last edit – 8:15 PST. I’ve spent the last 4 hrs answering questions, so calling it a night. Thank you so much for the questions, and I hope you found my answers to be reasonably fair, informative, and helpful. Since there was so much interest and I couldn’t get around to everyone, I may do a further AMA on reddit again at some later point. I’ve also learned more about AMA protocol by now, so will definitely book much more time for question-answering in the future. In the meantime, I don’t plan to use this reddit account beyond AMAs, but you can follow my twitter account to see what I’m up to – I’ll usually share new news articles of my work as they come out at https://twitter.com/szhang_ds.Good night, and good luck to all. via /r/IAmA https://ift.tt/3tl4ZxB

I am Sophie Zhang, whistleblower. At FB, I worked to stop major political figures from deceiving their own populace; I became a whistleblower because Facebook turned a blind eye. Ask me anything.

I was speaking with my son while walking our dog the other day and we agreed that most critters seem to be a variation on other critters, be it a long neck deer or a chompy water rat. When asked about seahorse however neither of us could come up with an answer. So what is up with the seahorse how did it come be? What other animals can we see that it’s genetically close to? via /r/askscience https://ift.tt/2PTB0yB

“That won’t happen to me” I said those words a few years ago when seeing a homeless man moving his possessions in an old zellers cart. The virus happened, lost my job and savings, then came my sanctuary, my home. Not a huge place but it was mine. A place to lay my head and forget about the unpleasant things happening elsewhere.I don’t use drugs, drink. I smoked the odd joint when I could afford it. Never had a dui and no criminal record. If you met me, you wouldn’t know I sleep on a friends couch or that a week ago I was in a tent. The homeless of Toronto today are changing. Years ago you had to have a major addiction or severe mental health issue to be homeless or had a character defect that most likely would result in being homeless, there were people in the same situation but the percentage was alot different. Not today. Mom and Pop shops that have been a staple of this community are closed or closing. Your favorite place to eat has closed its doors. And before you know it you’re closing the door on your place, one last time. The final goodbye.Because of years of inflation and a society built on greed, Toronto has become a luxury that only the rich can truly enjoy. It’s in this OPs opinion that the homeless population is going to increase significantly around Toronto and that the people making up that number are going to be upstanding citizens that just didn’t have enough money to live a decent life.We need a change Toronto. People born here shouldn’t have to be a slave to rent and low wages. People born outside of Toronto that move here, seeking a better life shouldn’t have to. And finally, YOU shouldn’t have to. Stay safe Toronto.Homeless Guy via /r/toronto https://ift.tt/3gaPy7J
