I’m reading A Tale of Two Cities, and realizing that we are experiencing the same sort of institutional decay Dickens criticized in the novel. Monseigneur is a particularly interesting representation of this decay because he shows how institutions can be corrupted to the point where they no longer serve their intended purpose. I couldn’t help but think about our media, and how they are so corrupted by ideology that they lost touch with reality. They think they are Madame Defarge, when really they are Monseigneur. via /r/books https://ift.tt/3gS8QPh

A Tale of Two Cities is very relevant today.

My partner and I bought a condo recently (just finishing construction), and as a part of the mortgage process we started looking at getting mortgage/life insurance. The Manulife agent just called, and during the 40 minute survey a couple questions came up that seem patently absurd.”In the last 5 years, have you been stressed?””How many times in the last 5 years have you been stressed?””Have you felt anxious in the last 5 years? How many times?”And my personal favourite, “When was the first time you experienced stress?” I don’t know, birth maybe?!When I responded that I didn’t know how to answer these questions in light of the fact that we’re in a global pandemic, and everyone’s stressed (not to mention the fact that my partner and I bought a home, are planning a wedding, and are currently living with my parents while construction is finished), the agent would only reply, “Sir, this is your questionnaire not mine. I just need a number.” I don’t know lady, I don’t keep a diary of every time I’m stressed!End result? “Based on you reporting anxiety and stress, we are unable to offer you full coverage and instead can only offer accidental coverage at 50% of your premium.”So how is anyone supposed to get insurance during a pandemic? Do you just say that you’re not stressed, only for them to deny payout later? “Oop, you said you weren’t stressed, but apparently you had just a touch of anxiousness during an existential crisis. Sorry!”Very frustrated, but I can’t think about it too much, lest I need to jot it down and add another count to the list. If anyone has suggestions I’m open to them. Hello!I have a discord group with around 800 members (ofc not all are active). This is a discord server filled with people learning C# and also C# devs. Everyone is welcome no matter what skill lvl. Everything on the server is free. Most of us are doing Web Dev.We have:- Private projects and Open source projects such as a Jokes api, recipe console app, xamarin forms calculator and a discord bot-Code reviews and Pair programming (One guy codes the other watches and then they switch)-Monthly Challenges with deadlines-Tons of learning content-A place where everyone is welcome no matter what and feedback+constructive criticism is appreciatedThis is a place for serious people that are interested in either learning C# or helping others learn. I am sharing this because everyone deserves to be a part of a community like this and getting in touch with other developers is essential. Learning to code is for everyone, the same goes for learning to write good code. If you have any project idea or an ongoing project share it, either if you want a review or someone to work on it with you. Communication is important so it is very beneficial to have a mic (it is ok if your english is not on point)Link: https://ift.tt/3301xgg Please dont be shy! Browsing .NET source code in GitHub is tedious. Browsing it in the .NET Source Browser is not, and lets you not only easily search for & browse source code, but click to go to definitions, explore projects and namespaces, link to line numbers, and a whole lot more.I suggest checking it out. It’s a great way to get an insight into what the code you’re relying on is actually doing, without having to hunt it down in GitHub. via /r/csharp https://ift.tt/32P6Y1y

Our broker wants 10 days for financing and our realtor is telling us that is too long and we might lose the bid because of it. She has a few brokers she knows that can do it in three. I am very hesitant because this seems like a conflict of interest to get a broker through a realtor? Also is 3 days too short? We work full time and this seems like it would be stressful, but our realtor seems to think it’s necessary if we want to be successful ok our bid. Please advise!
