It’s clear that our current politicians are acting for their own best interests – and the interests of whoever lines their pocket with the most cash.Look at the platforms currently being put out by the Liberals, Conservatives and NDP. They obviously understand the major issues/talking points facing Canadians today, but their solutions to the problems are nothing but a facade. As younger Canadians come of age to vote, work and contribute to Canadian society, they come to realize that Canada is not all that it’s made up to be. Especially if you don’t come from a family of wealth.Getting into the workforce is a challenge. Making enough money to live modestly on your own is strenuous. Owning a home is unfeasible. Getting ahead in life when we are starting from so far behind the older, lucky generations is next to impossible. And it’s only going to get worse as time moves forward. Older generations will keep stacking their assets and leveraging them for more cash and assets. While we will continue to put our toonies into a piggy bank in the hopes that someday it will turn into a minimal down payment for a 300 square foot home.Meet the Modern Innovation Party of Canada. We will transform our current, outdated system and bring forth new policies, and new opportunities for any Canadian who desires it.This isn’t about “getting back at boomers” or punishing them. This is about not taking any more shit and enacting real change that can better every. single. Canadian.Canada is a rich country. Rich in land, rich in resources, rich in money. So why why why do we concentrate our resources to a few select areas?Question: Why does real estate make up such a significant portion of our GDP?Answer: Because our politicians saw it as an easy way to enrich the already rich, at the expense of the poor and middle class. And at the expense of other industries.Question: Why do we concentrate our population in a few select metropolises?Answer: Because those cities are the only places in the country where high-paying, industry-leading jobs can be found. The ProposalReign in real estate prices by:a) Temporary ban on foreign investments. After ban lifts, tax the shit out of them.b) Increase interest rates for investment properties. Right now, if you buy an investment property (in addition to your primary residence), you will see a 0.5 – 0.75% increase in your interest rate for said investment property. I propose this increases to a 2.5 – 3% increase (over primary residence). This would alleviate a lot of buying pressure and make amateur landlords reconsider their too-good-to-be-true investments. And it wouldn’t cause people who only own one home to get under water.c) Temporary (maybe not temporary) decrease of immigration from 400k to 50k per year.d) Ban blind bidding.- Increase corporate tax rates (on corporations who make an income of over $500k per year).- Encourage innovative industries to sprout in Canada. Let’s start thinking forward about where the world is heading. Technology isn’t going away. Wouldn’t it be nice if Canada turns into a tech hub spot for the world? It’s too bad Canada was on the leading edge of both the artificial intelligence industry and the blockchain industry before lack of funding and regulations basically squashed them.- Build outwards from our main metropolises. The reason why people want to live in Toronto and Vancouver is because they have the best jobs, plenty of culture and many social opportunities. I know personally, if I could get a sliver of that stuff (the job opportunities mostly) in another smaller city, I would have no problem moving there. It’s time to start sprawling outwards and upwards. We are the second largest landmass in the WORLD. We have the resources. Let’s start bringing tech jobs and other leading industries to our secondary cities and BUILD THEM UP.Let’s strategically pick 8-12 cities across the country to throw additional resources at and encourage companies to plant their feet there. Let’s encourage new graduates, immigrants and all others to move to these mid-size cities and in 10 years, we will have created a nice sprawl for our population and jobs. As an example, I live in the outer GTA but would love to move to Kingston, or even Sault Ste. Marie if there were some booming industries and growing infrastructure there.- Let’s provide a real solution for homeless and hopeless people to get back on their feet and find meaning in life. Let’s give them a purpose. People go down the wrong path early in life and the way Canadian life is set up, it’s almost impossible to get out of whatever hole they’re in. We will provide subsidized 6-12 months of mental health therapy, drug rehab and integration into subsidized education of their choice. With job placement to follow.- Speaking of subsidized education, let’s select 10-20 leading careers/industries and subsidize them (at least 75% of the way) for ALL CANADIANS. Computer programming, healthcare, healthcare technology, social assistance, information technology, you name it. Let people choose one of these booming career paths and let’s help them get through it. After schooling, get a job placement in one of the aforementioned 8-12 cities that we plan to build up.Other issues such as climate change, pharmacare, dental care, etc. should be tackled too. This is the first iteration of the platform.Of course, this is something I just spitballed up. But I would love to hear your opinions on this. Let’s find some solutions to our common problems.Voters are becoming younger and younger. At the very least, we can make some noise and put some pressure on the other parties. via /r/canadahousing https://ift.tt/3Ct5LxP

Anyone want to start a new political party with me? Let’s put some pressure on the outdated political and monetary system.

My son is an accountant with dual citizenship. He got a job offer for $80K in the US in a low cost of living city. Currently we’re in a high cost of living city in Canada and he makes 60K.I’d hate for him to go. Since my husband died he’s the only family I have locally. But he’s insisting life just gets harder and harder in Canada and that if he wants to own a house he has to go.I’ve tried to raise the healthcare point. He points out 91% of Americans have health insurance. Plus you get it free from medicare when you’re above 65 and his job is a good plan. I say he could try to get a better job in Canada, he says he’s already above the median pay here. I point out the discrimination that exists there. He reminds me it’s a very liberal state/city he’d be moving to. Is there anything I’m missing to point out to him about why life in Canada is better/less expensive? via /r/PersonalFinanceCanada https://ift.tt/3fPunXF

Being one of the more frugal members of this board, my total yearly expenses for everything before 2020 added up to 11k, 3k of which was food. That was 27% of my expenses going to food.Due to the massive rise in food prices in early 2020, I had to increase my food budget by 50% and decrease the quality of my food. My total yearly expenses increased from 11k to 12.5k, with food now accounting for 36% of my total expenses. Now it’s 2021. Prices have increased a bit further, but really it’s the lowered food quality that has become unsustainable. I’ve had to raise my food budget again. I wanted to raise it from 4.5k to 6k, but oddly that’s just not making that much of a difference, so I’m thinking of raising it to 7.5k (about 20.50 dollars a day). I’ve also raised by entertainment expenses by 450 dollars a year (I got into photography, shit’s expensive). My total yearly expenses now add up to 16k (up from 11k just two years before!), 47% of which goes to food.ExpenseYearly AmountPercentageFood7.5k47%Housing2.5k15.5%Transportation2k12.5%Electricity1.3k8%Computer, communications, misc1k6.25%Entertainment7004.5%Extra, unforeseen1k6.25%Total16k100%My total cost of living going up 45% in two years is already kind of crazy, but almost half of my expenses going to food alone seems absurd…Is it just me? via /r/PersonalFinanceCanada https://ift.tt/3zUrXyI

Has food become absurdly expensive?
