The average US adult footprint is 30 tons. About half that is direct and half of that is indirect (government and corporations). If you live in Montana, switching from electric heat to a rocket mass heater cuts your carbon footprint by 29 tons. That as much as parking 7 petroleum fueled cars. And reduces a lot of other pollutants. Here is my four minute blurb at the energy conference yesterday https://youtu.be/ybS-3UNeDi0?t=2I wish that everybody knew about this form of heating and cooking – and about the building design that uses that heat from the summer to heat the home in winter. Residential heat in a cold climate is a major player in global issues – and I am struggling to get my message across.Proof …. proof 2 via /r/IAmA https://ift.tt/2XXAhQV

IamA guy with climate change solutions. Really and for true! I just finished speaking at an energy conference and am desperately trying to these solutions into more brains! AMA!

My partner and I make decent money but got evicted because our LL sold our house in the spring and we had to move. We couldn’t find anything decent without paying more as it was the height of the pandemic. Now we are paying 30% more each month. Our new LL is kind of shitty and won’t fix things and is now going to sell in the spring. We aren’t ready to buy a house because we don’t know where we want to live long term. We could probably do the irresponsible thing and put 5% down on something but it just doesn’t seem to make sense. Every night I go to sleep worrying about how house prices will keep going up and we’ll get further behind our peers who have been gifted a down-payment or house all together.I’ve been to the protests, called my MPs, MPPs, and changed who I vote for. Nobody seems to care. It just feels like hard work doesn’t mean anything and I’m scared for the future. Its all I can think about. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, seriously, I know its common in this sub to have housing anxiety so if anyone has been able to stop it from overtaking their life please give me tips. And yes I’m in therapy, which seems like a waste of money that I should be putting in my RRSP to save for a house, lol. via /r/canadahousing https://ift.tt/3EFeVHR

Just got my bill in the mail for a trip I took last month and obviously they charge you per kilometre but there’s a camera charge of $4.20 each time you use the highway, a trip charge of $1 and the icing on the cake is the account fee of $3.95.No other tolled road I’ve used has such an abundance of fees and charges slapped on to the price of just driving the road. What a joke. via /r/ontario https://ift.tt/3nvrkHe

According to the Globe and Mailparents gave their kids just more than $10-billion in down-payment help over the past year, which was 10 per cent of total down payments over that period. Just less than 30 per cent of first-time buyers got this help, which averaged $82,000Breaking it down by city, in Toronto parents have$130,000 for first-time buyers, while move-up buyers received an average of close to $200,000.While in Vancouvera first home [got] an average $180,000, while move-up buyers got $340,000 on average. This isn’t new:Close to 20 per cent of first-time buyers received this help in 2015, when the average amount was just more than $52,000.This is brutal. Folks who have more get more, while people who come from poorer families get less. via /r/canadahousing https://ift.tt/3CirYhq
