Doug announced his Cabinet on Friday knowing there would be a shitstorm particularly with his Nephew Mike getting a Cabinet Position. He expects people to eventually get used to it. That the publics anger will fade with time and Mikey can keep his post and his pay rise. This CANNOT happen. This is the most brazen Nepotism I have ever seen in politics and we’re just supposed to roll over and take it? A government that likes to yammer about cutting fat and getting rid of corruption is literally building a familial patronage network in our government. The only way anyone gets punished for this is if we make this an annoying itch for the government.Yes im asking you to call or email your MPP. But im not just asking that. Call or email them today. And then do it again next week. And maybe 2 weeks after that.Your voice as a singular does not matter a lick. Even a big surge doesn’t matter. Making it something they have to deal with and plan against and waste time is whats going to get them to change course. And dont be rude cause thats how you get ignored. Just remind whoevers reading it that this is Nepotism pure and simple, Its a waste of taxpayer money, and it shows competence and experience mean nothing to the OPC. Only blind loyalty. Here’s a list of contacts from the legislature. Considering Mike’s goes to a messagebox with the previous MPP and Doug’s is full I doubt you’ll have much luck with them. It might also help to just google your MPP’s name + MPP to find if they have a social media presence or website you can contact them at.https://ift.tt/nZRdof3 and if anyone knows a way to contact that OPC that isnt just a shitty form on their website please let me know. via /r/ontario https://ift.tt/nqcsrmv

I recently had the privilege of dining at Arpège, a vegetable-centric restaurant in Paris. One of the most famous and esteemed restaurants in France, Arpège has held three Michelin stars since 1996 and is currently ranked #23 on “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.”The chef, Alain Passard, went vegetarian in 2001 and grows all the produce he serves himself in his personal gardens. The guy is a rockstar who has created a space for vegetarian and plant-based meals at the highest level of haute cuisine.Pics of the meal here! The highlights were the vegetable “sushi” and gazpacho courses.https://ift.tt/1Veo0hg via /r/vegetarian https://ift.tt/Rq9mr4t

The best vegetables in the world? The vegetarian “gardener’s tasting menu” at 3-Michelin starred Arpège!

The book would eventually go on to be the third best selling book of all time. It was also the first in a series of books that would go on to become the best selling book series of all time. The story follows an orphan living at his aunt and uncle’s home who is neglected and mistreated. Later, he is invited to enroll at Hogwarts a school for witchcraft and wizardry. His life changes dramatically when he joins. The series ignited the spark to read for many young readers that would become a habit, despite the author, J.K. Rowling, becoming a controversial figure recently. For me, it accelerated my ability to read longer books because the next one in the series was usually longer than the one before it. Before that, I was reading the Goosebumps series as an primary/elementary school student, which were much shorter. The characters were funny and relatable and the plot was interesting and unpredictable.Have you read any of the Harry Potter books? I was riding my bicycle south on Laird Ave. This woman pulls up beside me and says, Hey, did you lose a bike bag? I looked down at my rack and sure enough it was gone. She said It had dropped off my rack at the last light. I turned around and just then another woman pulled up and asked if i had lost a bag. I said yes and she held up my bag. She said, I saw you drop it and i was following you to give it back.I thanked her very much and we parted ways. Thanks ladies for getting my stuff back and reminding me that Toronto is the good. via /r/toronto https://ift.tt/DouCMTG

Headed in to my 30’s and still live with my parents. I’ve got a decent paying job (around 60K/year at the moment) and thought that might be a good jump off salary to finally get my own place. I’ve got about 50K worth of a down payment but learned it’s best to not spend more than 35% of your monthly take-home on mortage. Some online calculators said I should be looking at stuff around 100-200k. Slim pickings….Okay, maybe I’ll have some better luck renting. If I apply the same 35% rule here, I’m looking to spend max $1500/mth on rent to live within means. There’s more options, but holy some of these places….1500 for a toilet and empty space around it to put my stuff.Checked out a couple places in Manitoba but didn’t find much more luck there. Feeling really down now as I was really forward to finally getting out on my own. Just looking to discuss I guess. And ask: should I just start accepting the fact that if I want to move out, it’ll be in to a shit box and if I don’t like it that’s too bad? via /r/ontario https://ift.tt/OUVc7v0

I am looking for songs that sonically take over me completely, soundscapes that are full to the brim with nowhere to go. Or it may be a kind of emotional thing, like crescendos, time signature changes, lyrics that are “deep/strong”… Extreme music that is of high quality, production… good art essentially! Essentially all about the sound; something that fills you up in all kinds of ways. The ephemeral is hard to put words onto…Here are some songs for reference:Comet Is Coming (NPR tiny desk) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpfpYTmohAk (first song and second song)Howie Lee – The Gate https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaHHaUG-ybM (VIDEO!!!)Terry Riley – Persian Dervishes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqQ59i4PmGEKinoko Teikoku – Whirlpool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33JNwxSNNNYKoen Groeneveld – 1981 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QDuudMELBIYann Tiersen – Ker al Loch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHiYco6Sd_k (VIDEO!!!)Bonzai – I Did https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbf1tPbTW7w (VIDEO!!!)Idles (NPR tiny desk) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMehItNQKAAFloating Points – Falaise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJfpOgQcq9IAsa Chang & Jun Ray – Hana https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPrQ6HSQkAc (VIDEO!!!)Rage Against the Machine – Bombtrack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVck6DkOi38Akiko Kiyama – Rainbow In The Hand https://ift.tt/tOFUzbl classical pieces like Tchaikovsky (Piano Concerto #1), or Lizst (complex arrangements), very dramatic intense pieces. I’m not so familiar with classical music although I love it more than anything, so recommendations in that category are very very welcome.Perhaps it is a bit of an abstract question, so the examples are to give an idea of what floats my boat. Any genre… as long as it takes over everything in me! If the video is crazy (denoted above with “VIDEO!!!”) that helps :)I would be so so grateful of any cool recommendations. Hope it is the right place to ask. I didn’t know much about contributing to Open Source 12 months ago, I just heard it was a great career accelerator and a lot of fun.So I listened to a lot of smart folks about how newcomers to coding can use Open Source to advance their careers. This is what I learned about how to get started.Pick the language you are the best at. If you’re not at least an advanced beginner in a language work on tutorials until you get there.Search for an Open Source project in that language – good places to look are https://ift.tt/KvOZyeP / or https://ift.tt/yUjgaOM 2 or 3 projects.Watch all 2-3 projects for 1-2 weeks (i.e. join their community on Discord / Slack, and subscribe to issue notifications). See how people contribute, how they talk to each other. and read all of the documentation.Based on that investigation, pick the one that seems most welcoming to you. Only pick one.Introduce yourself in the proper channels. Follow the introduction instructions!Read all of the open issues. Pick the one that you are most likely to do well. Work on that issue.Meanwhile, if you see someone else ask a question that you know the answer to based on reading ALL of the documentation, answer those questions. “I think the answer is this [and add link]. Community, please redirect me if I’m wrong.” *** helping in Open Source is more than coding, and this is a great way to ease the burden on the very busy Maintainers. ***When you finish the issue, follow the protocol to get a code review. Also, ask the appropriate channel for a Maintainer to double-check that you are following the correct process.Repeat steps 7-9 at least 5 times, preferably 10.Ask in a public channel, not privately, for an experienced Contributor or Maintainer to review your initial contributions to see what you are doing well and how you can improve. Now that you’ve worked on 10 issues, work on 20, then 30, then 40.Recommended: start reviewing others’ pull requests. Make sure you get advice from someone more experienced after your first one.Recommended: along the way, keep a weekly list of what you did, and what you learned. After at least 25 hours of contribution, but preferably 50, update your resume (that’s what #14 is for), and ask on a general or career channel if folks would give advice on your job search. “I’ve been working on Community AA for the last BB weeks and have done XX issues, YY pull requests, ZZ code reviews. Would someone be willing to share tips on my resume and or organizations you know who might be looking for an Engineer with these skills ” via /r/webdev https://ift.tt/i5jESav
