Good morning serbia,i visited friends in serbia who lived in a village. One day I was bored and decided to go for a walk. I’m learning Serbian but I still speak it very badly. A man was sitting on a bench and as I walked past him he asked me where I was from and that he had never seen me before. Then he invited me to his house, he caught fish and wanted to invite me to eat fish. I’m from Germany and my first thought was that he wants to lure me into his house and kill me. I told my friends about this encounter, they assured me that this is normal in Serbia. Is this really part of Serbian culture? via /r/serbia https://ift.tt/OYCxX4u

What can I say, I am a complete sucker for good marketing and as an anxious FTM I bought pretty much everything there was to buy. Baby is 6 months old now. Here’s what I’d buy again, and what I wouldn’t:HITS:The Snoo: This machine is worth it’s weight in gold as far as I’m concerned. Our baby was a good sleeper on her own, no doubt about it, but I firmly believe that the Snoo helped her develop good habits and learn how to self-soothe early on. She slept through the night from 6 weeks, and reliably did 10-12 hours by 3 months. It also saved SO much time not having to rock her all the way to sleep for every nap. We bought it used for $800 and resold it for $650 so in the end it only cost us $150 for 6 months. That said, I would have paid full price given the value we got from it.Uppababy Vista: We are big walkers and we love this thing. It has big wheels and great suspension so baby isn’t troubled at all by bumps in the road, and the huge basket is great for shopping trips, big diaper bags, and more. The included bassinet also provided a great place for her to nap on the go.Lovevery Play Gym: I don’t know what it is about this thing but our baby LOVED it. We could just put her down on it and she would giggle and smile for hours looking at the cards or playing with the toys. Perfect for when we needed a little break from entertaining her, and looks great in our living room.Lovevery Play Kits: The quality and the level of thought they put into these things is really incredible. Baby has loved all the toys we’ve gotten so far – they’re all so creative.Doona Carseat/Stroller: Love this transformer-esque thing. Great for travel, ubers, planes, grandparents needing a quick carseat for their car, or anywhere we need a stroller smaller than the giant uppababy.BabyBrezza FormulaPro & Sterilizer: If you’re formula feeding, these things are lifesavers! They both saved us so much time & hassle. Like a Keurig for baby.Beis Diaper Backpack: I love this thing. All the little touches are so thoughtful, and people have absolutely gone nuts when they see me bust out the huge fold-out changing station when we’re out and about. Looks great, and versatile enough that dad can easily carry it too.Dr. Nozebot: I honestly had no interest in manually sucking the snot out of my baby’s nose, so this thing was a lifesaver. It sucks an INSANE amount out in seconds, super strong and effective.Taking Cara Babies: I know I know, it’s controversial and the info is available in other places. I honestly just wanted a quick & dirty, easy to understand intro to baby sleep and I got it with this. If you have time to read books on it, that might be better, but I personally thought her material was incredibly useful.MEH:Stokke Tripp Trapp: I really love this thing and so does baby, but oh MAN is it expensive. Once you get all the attachments it’s like $450 for a highchair. I think there are probably other options that are better value, but it is very nice.BabyBjorn Bouncer: I adore this thing since it’s so portable – I’ll put baby in it when doing dishes, when we’re eating, etc. It really calms her down and she loves bouncing around in it. That said, I’m not sure the BB is really any better than cheaper bouncers.Baby Bjorn Baby Carrier: This thing is fine, but a little complicated to use, and I personally found the much cheaper baby k’tan to be a lot more comfy.Frida Baby Kits: These little random tools are useful to have around, but these are honestly pretty overpriced for random plastic items. I would just look at what’s in them and order from Amazon as you need.MISSES:Owlet Sock and Camera: I can’t even describe how much I hate these things. Glitchy, never works right, constantly disconnecting and making the most annoying beeping noises. Such a waste of money. I got fed up and got a cheap Amazon camera and it’s a million times better.Mamaroo: I don’t know guys. I guess some babies really love this thing but mine did nothing but scream. We used it twice. Maybe get it used and see if yours likes it?Hatch Changing Table & Scale: You can just step on a normal scale, then step back on holding baby, and calculate their weight by looking at the difference. Why I did not realize this, I do not know. You don’t need a baby scale.Uppababy Mesa Car Seat: It’s nice that it attaches to the stroller, but it’s extremely confusing and difficult to use (took us months to understand how the straps work) and it only goes up to 32″ babies – ours is almost too big for it and she’s only 6 months! Wish I had gotten a better seat and an UB adapter instead. (ETA everyone is saying the straps are not confusing so there is a high possibility I am just an idiot lol)Frida Postpartum Kits: I ended up having a C-section and not even opening these. They seem nice but pretty much everything included you can just get at the hospital for free. Just wait until you deliver, and see how you feel and what you really need.SnuggleMe Lounger: Our baby was completely content to be placed on a mat or rug. She didn’t love this thing and we used it maybe twice. If anyone had similar or different experiences with these, or if there are things I missed, please add your thoughts! via /r/BabyBumps https://ift.tt/RfSJhuq

Hi all, Im a FTM who graduated 2 weeks ago (unplanned c-section) and am so grateful for all the support I got through this subreddit during my pregnancy. I always appreciated reading graduation and new parenthood posts, and I thought I would share some parts of new parenthood that have surprised me. I know there will be new and unexpected challenges ahead, and I don’t mean to speak too soon, but in general things have been easier than i thought they would be. For example:-I have been sleeping about 7 hours a night (with interruptions) and the quality of my sleep is WAY better than while pregnant.-I have a lot of energy; I was able to walk 2 miles yesterday, which I hadn’t done since second trimester.-my husband and I have been caretaking by ourselves and it’s been very doable. Friends and family have stopped by briefly with food, but there hasn’t been a time I really wished we had an extra pair of hands.-we did triple-feeding for 5 days to get baby’s birthweight up, and that was really tough, but it was still less tiring than being pregnant and now just regular breastfeeding feels easy in comparison.-my nipples got chewed up and scabbed pretty badly the first week, but now are healed. Nipple balm and silverettes were life-savers in the first days but I’ve stopped using them for now.-along similar lines, the learning curve for breastfeeding is steep but went quickly for us, especially thanks to our lactation consultant. Baby and I got lots of practice and learned so much so fast.-I find myself missing my baby when she’s asleep and waiting for her to wake up so we can hang out again.-c-section recovery has been pretty easy. My incision healed up really fast and I havent had pain since I was discharged from the hospital 2 days pp.-we’ve been able to keep our house clean and figure out new systems as we go for laundry, storage, etc – not all our plans made sense once baby was here but we’ve adapted-I am wildly happy even when I’m tired or frustrated. I have generalized anxiety (treated with lexapro) and I haven’t had PPA or PPD symptoms yet. I feel very peaceful with baby. I will remain vigilant about how I’m feeling but my lack of anxiety so far has been a very welcome development. There have of course been hard moments, especially with the triple-feeding, but also so many things to celebrate like the above. I don’t mean to rub in how positive these last two weeks have been, as I know many people have a very different experience, but I hope by sharing I can give some hope to other ftms fearing the worst for their quality of life postpartum. Good luck to you all!! via /r/pregnant https://ift.tt/gBYQZe0

Currently 37wks pregnant. My work waited until like last week to start looking for a temp for when I’m out. They already had me train 3 other people on different tasks that I do. I’m being hit with so many questions at this point daily from those 3 ppl. We have a 4th interview with a possible candidate today. Each of the interviews are taking like an hour long. My boss also is expecting written instructions for literally ever little task I do which is impossible since I do so much and that would take forever. She wanted me to train her how to do something yesterday because she’s now scared I’ll go early, and no one will be trained. It took an hour to train her, and when I was first trained to do the same thing they went over it with me 10mins and that was it. They also want me to get all my regular daily tasks done. It’s like they are expecting way more of me when I’m super pregnant. It’s stressing me out and I honestly have hoped to go early just so I can have some peace. I don’t know how to tell them that I’m super overwhelmed, and their expectations are unrealistic. I told them about the baby 6months ago. via /r/pregnant https://ift.tt/reO49NC

I’m currently brewing baby #2, and, looking back on both of my pregnancies, I’ve realized I didn’t even know about pelvic health until I actively sought information on my own.As far as postpartum care goes, I didn’t receive any helpful information outside of “This is what postpartum hemorage symptoms are, don’t soak in a bath or have sex for 6 weeks, call 911 for chest pain, abnormal swelling or sudden splitting headaches that don’t improve with tylenol.” Which, cool, the absolute bare minimum, life endangering information was addressed. But what about general healing? What about potential short – and long-term changes to my body? Can we talk about any of the actual realities of postpartum life before being thrown to the wolves? No? Cool.Unfortunately, most people don’t know what to ask or where to look until things are already affecting them. Even worse, some are just left to assume “this is the new normal” without being informed that certain symptoms can actually be improved, if not removed, via physical therapy and such.So let’s chat about this. I’d like to know many of you actually have an OB or midwife that has mentioned changes to the pelvic floor during and post pregnancy? Is it ever brought up by them during appointments or, like me, did you have to discover what a pelvic floor was, what damage can happen to it and what questions you should ask to get the support you need to heal, all prior to the topic even being broached, if ever, by the professionals you’re entrusting with your care? What changes have you noticed if you’ve already delivered? Are you experiencing changes during your pregnancy? This gap in pre – and postnatal health is huge, and it should be openly discussed to ensure people are getting the very necessary support they need for such huge changes to their bodies. For those of you reading this that aren’t 100% sure what pelvic floor dysfunction is, it can be any of the following:Urinary issues – incontinence, urge changes (too much or too little), not fully emptying bladder when going to the restroom, and slowed stream.Bowel issues – incontinence, prolapse, constipation, incomplete evacuation, and rectoceles.Genital issues – vaginal prolapse, painful intercourseAnd I’m sure there’s more.Things that can help improve or remove some of the symptoms listed above are pelvic floor therapy and / or surgery.Just because you’ve grown and delivered a baby does not mean you have to pee yourself every time you sneeze. It doesn’t mean you are 1000% condemned to having your pelvic organs slip into your vagina. It doesn’t mean sex has to hurt forever. And it’s really important to learn this prior to these potential circumstances so you know what your options are if you ever encounter them.Lastly, I’d like to address three common misconceptions about PFD:Having a c-section does not remove the risk of all forms of dysfunction. Your pelvic floor can be altered throughout pregnancy due to the weight of the uterus and other factors, even if you don’t end up delivering through your vagina.PFD symptoms may not arrive for weeks or months after delivery. Or, they can even arrive before delivery. You don’t have to be experiencing all or most of the aforementioned symptoms to still be affected by PFD. If you’re experiencing just one of them, it’s still good to get support to heal from that symptom.Anyway, I just wanted to bring some attention to this very real experience. A fair amount of people who have birthed a baby go through this on a daily basis, and they deserve support. And if we aren’t talking about it, others will experience these things without knowing that help is out there.Sources: Post partum pelvic floor changes Ylenia Fonti, Rosalba Giordano, […], and Beatrice La RosaPelvic Floor Dysfunction – American Society of Colon and Rectal SurgeonsWHY YOU SHOULDNT IGNORE YOUR PELVIC FLOOR AFTER CHILDBIRTH. -National Association for ContinenceEvidence Based Birth Podcast – EBB 256 – Top 3 Recommendations for Preventing Pelvic Floor Dysfunction after Birth with Dr. Sarah Duvall, Founder of Core Exercise SolutionsEvidence Based Birth Podcast- EBB 155 – Pelvic Floor Health in Pregnancy and Postpartum with Dr. Juan Michelle Martin via /r/pregnant https://ift.tt/zFPd5h8

My wife and I just finished our bathroom. We started a couple days before Christmas and wrapped everything up about 7 weeks later. Our house was built in 1890 as a barn. Sometime in the 50’s they moved it 1/4 mile to its current location, set it on a concrete block foundation and converted it to a house. Nothing here is plumb, square, or level. We gutted it down to the studs for the 2nd time. We did the first reno about 25 years ago when we were poor, stupid, and didn’t know what we were doing. (Thank god for Reddit and YouTube!!!)We did all the work ourselves with the exception of having the shower glass installed. How’d we do?(Ignore the door color. We’re currently negotiating with each other about whether to paint it or not.)https://ift.tt/tm3WrKL via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/407Pe6k

I have a four day old newborn who refuses to sleep on back in bassinet. The first night at the hospital, anytime I put her down she would cry. I swaddle her and lay her down in bassinet but something about being on her back with no support, she hates it. I ended up having the spend the first night with her in my arms the whole time. I stayed awake and anytime I dosed off, I forced myself to stay awake. The second night it was the same thing. I feel my eyes getting so heavy and tired but she will not sleep anywhere else than my arms. As soon as she’s put on her back in the bassinet, she starts stirring around and crying within a minute. By day three I needed to sleep, I had someone come over during the day to watch baby so I could just sleep a few hours. This person managed to lay baby down on her stomach in the bassinet. This was the first time my baby finally got sleep somewhere other than my arms. But I know she is not supposed to be sleeping on her stomach. I am absolutely terrified of SIDS, hence me continuously forcing my self to stay awake all night. I can’t risk her sleeping on her stomach if I’m not watching her the whole time. Today I put her in her baby swing, She was swaddled and had a thicker blanket loosely around her as well. This provided support for her body which helped her to sleep for a little while but once again, I was watching her the whole time because I know the loose blanket being behind her could result in suffocation. I also know a baby obviously can’t spend the night sleeping in a swing. I cant put a pacifier in her mouth either because I don’t want nipple confusion before breastfeeding has been established. Since she’s been born I’ve gotten a total of maybe 10-15 hours of sleep. I feel worried that this lack of sleep will cut down on my milk supply. I also feel worried if I don’t get her sleeping on her back soon, she’ll never learn. I find myself sobbing out of tiredness, lack of answers, and disappointment in myself. I’m so tired, I don’t know what to do anymore. I try explaining it to pediatrician and others but I don’t think anyone fully understands. I just keep being told to swaddle her, they don’t understand she won’t sleep without support around her whole body and head. They don’t understand I am literally awake all night not allowing myself to sleep. I am lost on what to do at this point. via /r/pregnant https://ift.tt/YwIjksV

When I was pregnant I attended as many classes as I could find. Through my insurance, hospital and private. I attended 2 different breastfeeding classes and went over breastfeeding briefly during 1 (Preparing for Delivery and Postpartum). When talking about breastfeeding all videos show a happy mom, usually smiling from ear to ear, breastfeeding her baby. They show different feeding positions that said mom is so comfortable doing and baby is cooperating, with the perfect latch being all cute. In the beginning of my breastfeeding journey I was far from being happy, or even smiling. My intention is not to scare future moms but I wish I could go back in time and let myself know what the reality is. Cause there were many, MANY days that I felt like a failure. It hurts! So, so much! Your nipples will feel like they will fall off. I cried every time my baby latched. Pain went away a minute later then I just felt sore. And because some of you will ask, her latch was excellent per 3 different LCs.If you exclusively breastfeed then it’s going to be you waking up for every feeding. Your SO can and should wake up with you to change the diaper, get you some water, rock the baby to sleep but non of that really matters because all you want to do is sleep for more than 2 hours. But you need to feed baby every 2.5-3h counting from when you start the feeding not from when you finish. Newborn babies can feed for up to 45 minutes. You do the math.If you decide to pump, you need to first figure out how to make a day last 48 hours cause between feeding the baby, pumping, washing and sterilizing your pump and bottles you will probably be at hour 26! I pumped for a while cause my baby wasn’t gaining weight and I kept telling my husband “I feel like it’s 1000 o clock”!! I literally pumped for maybe 3 weeks and when I think about that time I feel like it lasted for 3 months.Honorable mentions: stress about how much baby ate, stress if baby is gaining weight, hunger, thirst, no time to eat, no time to drink, washing your hair every 10 days = success, thirst, leaking, engorgement, clogged ducts, spilled milk, milk on everything, did I mention thirst? I know all that sounds dramatic and scary. But let me tell you! IT IS ALL WORTH IT!!!! When the pain is gone, baby latches like a dream, feeding are 4h-5h apart, you find your position, and stop leaking everywhere, then yes you will look at your baby, smile and be happy! The bond, the way your baby will look at you, the “nipple in the mouth smiles” (my personal favorite) and the feelings you get when you realize how awesome you are! Unmatched!! So keep fighting mama! It freaking sucks but it is beautiful on the other side! On the other side, breastfeeding is as easy as breathing♥️ via /r/pregnant https://ift.tt/WQaB0VL

It blows my mind to learn the story about Denis Pushkarev & core.js! I remember in 2013 when I started serious frontend work I had to chose polyfills by hand and integrate them in webpack. Then at some point they became part of Angular 2 and I forgot of their existence. I always thought these polyfills must be paid by Google or MS or some combination of the FANG companies. Big surprise it was not!Looks like the system for giving credit to the authors is currently fundamentally broken. I made this video to spread awareness in my Flutter community and beyond. I encourage other developers/podcasters to do so. We should not let this thing just wash away in the news cycle. We owe this man so much. I mean… all of has have been benefiting from his work. I remember 10 yrs ago, saying you are JS developer was getting people to treat you as second class citisen. Since the big SPA frameworks showed up this change by significant measure. So much was built on top of core.js and it’s shocking to learn how little was paid back. You can support him by following the links he proides in the article.PS Yes I know he is russian. Makes no difference. Read the full post and you’ll understand how much work was put in this library and how much all of us benefited. His government can eat a ****. That does not mean we should not support his hardwork because of nationality. via /r/webdev https://ift.tt/BnHKfsk

A single developer has been maintaining core.js with little recognition or support. Almost all modern single page apps use core.js. Millions of downloads and hardly any compensation
