SOS—we’re weaning our 12.5-month-old daughter off of her bottle, and as expected, the poor thing is struggling… she goes to daycare and is generally good there, but as soon as we pick her up, she’s pretty much screaming/crying most of the time until we give her her bedtime bottle (keeping this one for now for our sanity). She’s also going through a sleep regression, guessing as a result of this transition. We give her her milk in various different types of sippy cups (she seems to like the munchkin any-angle straw cup, but not all the time). Any tips on how to make this transition smoother for her? She’s generally so happy and silly, and it hurts to see her struggling 😣💔 TIA!!PS sorry if I flaired this incorrectly—I am asking for tips to share; I have none 😂 via /r/NewParents https://ift.tt/PVcZGxs

A bit morbid for a 6yr old I know. Unfortunately, he has come across a video about ‘death’ from some Youtubers. He has also watched a video about Jesus Christ which he is inquisitive about. We have now put a block on these types of videos (It was originally Minecraft he was watching, but they pop up). He has now over the past 6-8months become increasingly anxious, sad and angry about death. He will get extremely tearful and say stuff like ‘I don’t want my family to die’ or ‘I don’t want to die’ and become extremely vulnerable. Or the other end of the spectrum when angry it’s ‘You want to kill me!’ (Which is obviously not the case… most of time…🤣) He has stopped doing sports because he doesn’t want to leave me or his family. He keeps saying how much he hates school because he doesn’t want to go and leave us.I’ve tried having gentle conversations about this and now he is asking if he can pray to God to ask us not to be taken away. We aren’t a religious family, but I also wouldn’t stop him if he felt comfort from it. But I also don’t want to lie. I have explained as gentle as I can that death is certain in life, but I’m obviously aware this isn’t going to help any anxieties or even if I should be saying such things. I remember learning about death at about 8yrs old, so wondered if he is just that bit young and it’s really traumatising him.Has anyone experienced this? Is there any books/advice/tips/services that can help? I’m just lost at what I can do to bring him back to some life instead to worrying so much 😔 via /r/AskUK https://ift.tt/poeO7WE

I’m not sure if this is the right place to be posting, but I had a really weird experience today.I bring my baby with me to work and while we were waiting on a customer, we got to talking about how he also had a baby recently. Now, when I talk about my baby, I don’t always bring it up, but sometimes I will mention that she was a preemie (35 weeker due to preeclampsia, weighed 4 lb 4 oz and dropped to 3 lb 10 oz, in the NICU for 8 days). When I mentioned it to this customer, he then said he had a 25 weeker and immediately I told him what a miracle his baby was. I then said mine was 35 weeker preemie and he said “oh barely a preemie, not like ours”…. Am I missing something?? Maybe I might be too sensitive but I feel like it was a little rude. I know how difficult it must be to have a child born at any gestation earlier than mine but we were still in the NICU, we still saw our daughter with a feeding tube, we still went through things too.Anyway, just wanted to put it out there that no matter what gestation or weight or ANYTHING, your child deserves to be recognized as strong and resilient and not just “barely a preemie”. I’ve seen so many posts from all of you and your beautiful baby warriors and you’re all truly incredible. via /r/NICUParents https://ift.tt/mubPk8T

Like the title says . . .I am an anxious mom looking to take my 8 MO to an open swim night at a pool down the street, possibly on my own. We could walk or drive. I’m wondering things like -Do you put them in swimsuit before? I’m assuming you change them there because of swim diapers. What kind of swim diapers do you use?Where do you set them down when you’re changing or have to go to the bathroom?Do you like wearing them in the water or just holding them?I know some of these things are personal preference and age-dependent. I just can’t wrap my mind around this but really want to try. I realize this post may sound silly but OH WELL! Thanks in advance 😊❤️ via /r/NewParents https://ift.tt/G8pUnws

My 10.5 mo old was constipated for about 2 weeks. It stressed me out and hurt me to see him struggle. I tried a suppository but that was just temporary relief. I tried purée prunes, pears, and peaches. None of it made him regular. The doctors were not much help so I kept reading and researching. Ripe kiwi with a little skin left on cut up pieces and dragon fruit helped my baby! Most of the fiber is in the skin of fruit. Also 4-8oz of water daily. Every morning I have him take a few sips of water as soon as he wakes up and then we eat breakfast. Drinking water on an empty stomach is beneficial for organs. I drink it every morning as well. Fiber can’t work properly without an adequate amount of water! He’s not constipated anymore! I wanted to share this with new parents who are struggling with a constipated baby. via /r/NewParents https://ift.tt/doAzvGQ

Every time they put the CPAP Nasal Cannulas in it horrifies me with the size of it. Based on my daughters reaction my horror feels justified… The most painstaken screams I ever hear from her, and then her eyes start watering. When I go home at night I still hear her screams. It’s most heartbreaking that she feels the discomfort when I do Kangaroo care. I feel she think’s I’m betraying her by causing her so much discomfort, and I shouldn’t hold her when she has the nasal cannula in. They say the full mask might put an indent on her face, but what about the indent of psychological trauma that such pain leaves on the brain? I’m so worried she will develop an anxiety disorder 🙁 I wish they would use the high flow, smaller nasal prongs and switch back and forth from high flow to full mask CPAP… How have you coped with this scenario?? via /r/NICUParents https://ift.tt/Cm9dnlf

I’m still coming down from what happened today, and trying to make sense of everything. My 12 month old son was standing by me while I sat on the couch, and I was eating a breakfast sandwich. My son is a bit of a scavenger when we eat in front of him, so my husband and I will break him off tiny pieces of our food for him to have. I was doing just that with some of the cheese, when I gave him a very tiny piece his face became blank and he started starring off, then all of a sudden he went limp and his head tilted back. I immediately thought he was choking, so I started doing back blows, but nothing was coming up so I flipped him over as I was calling 911. His eyes were rolled in the back of his head and he turned blue and started foaming at the mouth. I can’t remember if he was making any noise at this point, or convulsing as I was trying to care for him and speak to 911. About 2-3 minutes in he came to and started crying and was also extremely confused. The hospital thinks he may have choked on the cheese and the lack of oxygen threw him into a seizure, or it was a febrile seizure, since he had a slight temp the other day, but were a bit cautious to say that was the case since he didn’t have a fever at the hospital or at all today. To say I am traumatized is an understatement. I was home alone when this all happened and ran to a neighbors house after calling 911 with him. I know I did everything correct, and baby is fine now but I can’t help to feel I failed him. We still don’t have concrete proof of what it was and I’m terrified it will happen again. One thing is for sure though I will NEVER feed him outside of his highchair now. via /r/NewParents https://ift.tt/ZJpdz0W

It compounds.Become a lifelong learner (best tip).Working from 7am to 7pm isn’t productivity. It’s guilt. To be really successful become useful.Like houses in need of repair, problems usually don’t fix themselves.Envy is like drinking poison expecting the other person to die.Don’t hold onto your “great idea” until it’s too late.People aren’t thinking about you as much as you think. Being grateful is a cheat sheet for happiness. (Especially today.)Write your life plan with a pencil that has an eraser. Choose your own path or someone will choose it for you.Never say, I’ll never…Not all advice is created equal.Be the first one to smile. The expense of something special is forgotten quickly. The experience lasts a lifetime. Do it.Don’t say something to yourself that you wouldn’t say to someone else. It’s not how much money you make. It’s how much you take home.Feeling good is better than that “third” slice of pizza.Who you become is more important than what you accomplish. Nobody gets to their death bed and says, I’m sorry for trying so many things. There are always going to be obstacles in your life.
